From today’s perspective, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s incredibly creative run for Spider-Man’s early issues seems an almost impossible accomplishment. Issue after issue, month after month, Amazing Spider-Man produced a procession of charismatic new characters, virtually all of which had successful staying power. And of course, at the forefront of this were the villains. Issue #15 was published for August of 1964 and brought Kraven the Hunter, a terrific early Spidey villain who made his debut with an outstanding Steve Ditko cover. Kraven has appeared in countless storylines, is well known for being the central antagonist in the acclaimed ‘Kraven’s Last Hunt” storyline of the 1980s, and was the subject of his own self-titled movie in 2024. Kraven is well-positioned to continue to be featured in the movies, and it appears likely that Kraven will be pitted against Spider-Man in a future film.
